Mark Hamill Confirms Himself, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels Are in Talks for Star Wars: Episode VIIThe big news last week was that Harrison Ford was officially signed on to return as Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode VII. This exciting rumor was neither confirmed nor denied by Disney and Lucasfilm, which are welcoming all speculation towards the project, since it acts as a gauge in fan interest. Now, Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill has stepped forward to confirm that all of the main cast members from the original trilogy are in talks, but no one actor has officially signed on. This includes Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian and Anthony Daniels as C3PO. None of the actors will return, though, if one is left out of the story that is being written right now by Michael Arndt. They’re talking to us. George Lucas wanted to know whether we’d be interested. He did say that if we didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t cast another actor in our parts, they would write us out…I can tell you right away that we haven’t signed any contracts. We’re in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm. Both have had meetings set that were postponed on their end, not mine. They’re more busy than I am.Another thing I’d want to make sure of is are we going to have the whole gang back? Is Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels, everybody that’s around from the original [returning]? I want to make sure that everybody’s on board here, rather than just one.”Mark Hamill then went onto “sort of” confirm the recent news that this new trilogy, directed by J.J. Abrams, would be based around the Skywalker-Solo children, and that he will take on the Obi Wan role this time out.“I’m assuming, because I haven’t talked to the writers, that these movies would be about our offspring…Like my character would be sort of in the Obi-Wan range [as] an influential character…When I found out [while making the original trilogy] that ultimate good news/bad news joke…The good news is there’s a real attractive, hot girl in the universe; the bad news is she’s your sister…I thought, ‘Well, I’m going to wind up like Sir Alec Guinness. I’m going to be a lonely old hermit living out in some kind of desert igloo with a couple of robots.’”In returning to the franchise, Mark Hamill says he wants these new films to stay true to the originals.“I said to George Lucas that I wanted to go back to the way it was, in the sense that ours was much more carefree and lighthearted and humorous…in my opinion, anyway….I hope they find the right balance of CGI with practical effects. I love props, I love models, miniatures, matte paintings…I’m sort of old school. I think if you go too far in the direction of CGI it winds up looking like just a giant a video game, and that’s unfortunate. … If they listen to me at all, it’ll be, ‘Lighten up and go retro with the way it looks.’”Stay tuned as more Star Wars: Episode VII breaks daily.[MovieWeb]

Director Michael Bay returns to his blockbuster robots in disguise franchise with Transformers 4 starting production in May. The filmmaker recently revealed it will feature a completely new look and a ‘smaller’ approach.“We’re going to start off smaller. There’s a brand new cast. To freshen the franchise we’ve redesigned everything from top to bottom. The history of the first three movies is still there, we start four years later and there’s a reason why we’re meeting a new cast. Mark (Wahlberg) is really excited about it and it’s a great redesign. I said that 3 [which grossed $1.1 billion] was going to be my last one. Paramount was letting me do Pain and Gain and the Transformers ride was opening at Universal and it was bittersweet to think of passing it off. I wanted to set it up on a really sure footing and to bring someone else in on that, it would have been overwhelming.”When asked if the movie will reboot the franchise, the director confirmed it is not a reboot, but it is set four years after the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon.“No, that’s wrong. We keep the Transformers the way they were, it’s just four years later. There’s a reason the Transformers are redesigned. We’re trying to broaden the franchise and give it more places to go.”[source: MovieWeb]

Transformers 4 May Not Be Final Sequel for Michael Bay; Shia LaBeouf Cameo Not Ruled OutTransformers 4 is gearing up to start production later this year, with director Michael Bay taking a smaller approach to the franchise. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently gave another update about the director’s new take, revealing that they don’t revisit one single location from the previous three movies.“There’s a lot of new elements. I wouldn’t say we’ve completely changed this world, and yet it’s completely different. There are new characters, new situations. I don’t think we revisit a single location. Michael really has a great way of approaching this thing.”While Transformers 4 will mark the start of a whole new trilogy, it is believed that Michael Bay will not return to direct Transformers 5 and Transformers 6. The producer revealed that he hopes the director does come back, although that is not set in stone.“I can’t speak for Michael. I hope he would [direct the next two]. It would be great, but it’s certainly something in our design of this. It’s going to be an ongoing story, so the possibility, again, as long as the audience shows up for us, there’s a lot of story still to be told.”When asked whether or not Shia LaBeouf will make a cameo appearance as Sam Witwicky, the producer revealed that may be possible, if something evolved within the story.“I don’t believe that would be true. You never know. Things are not set in stone, and if something evolved and that came naturally. That wouldn’t be the intention. The intention is this is new world, with new characters, with Mark Wahlberg leading us. It’s a different movie, but a lot of the things that you love about the other ones are joining the ride.”[MovieWeb]
